CHANGE CAN BE SCARY!
We become accustomed to the environment in which we live. We resist the inevitable changes forced onto us but ultimately feel the need to simply move on with work or life.
For my part, seeing family close to me becoming older and then slowly changing into someone I didn’t recognize was tough. It can be scary seeing the world as we know it change in so many ways.
Change can be for the best. Sometimes, necessary changes may not be glaringly apparent until pointed out to you.
I recently attended one of our Des Moines Chapter SOS (Shop Owner Support) meetings. The meeting was held at a member shop a few miles out from the metro area. The shop owner had taken over an existing business that had employed him for several years. He knew change was needed to free him from working six and sometimes seven days per week to get all the work done. Many of us in attendance reassured him the changes we proposed were the exact changes that helped us grow our business and allowed us the freedom to enjoy our families and to spend time with them. It is now up to him to make those tweaks to make a good business even better.
When it comes to change, I often use the motto, “crawl before you walk,” and then, “walk before you run.” Whenever you need to change your shop—for whatever reason—don’t make all the changes at once. It may send you over the edge! Did you know it’s estimated to take 22 days for change to stick? I know this is true, and that is why I have not succeeded in a weight loss diet—yet.
I hope this issue of MWACA Magazine finds you, your staff or fellow team members, and your loved ones in good health and spirits. If not, please reach out to a friend and talk or seek professional help for whatever the ailment might be.
Work hard and take time to have some fun too!
