Auto Care Alliance Expresses Opposition To Recent Move By ASA And SCRS Due To Lack Of Enforcement And Industry Collaboration

Tuesday, October 3, 2023 | Fall 2023

In July 2023, the Auto Care Alliance and numerous other aftermarket auto associations took issue with ASA and SCRS entering a voluntary agreement with auto makers. With ASA and SCRS representing less than 1% of the automotive service industry, ACA and other organizations criticized the two associations for the lone action, without any consideration for the original organizations who first entered into this exact agreement in 2014. ASA has been vehemently opposed to the Right to Repair legislation for 20+ years and has now flipped their position without addressing any of the past and current issues with the agreement including lack of enforcement, security issues, access to diagnostic tools, and has the potential to soften progress on the legislation many want passed.
